The Good Dinosaur was my return to production as an artist after nearly 3 years as a Director of Technical Artists. It was such a pleasure to create sets again, especially those in The Good Dinosaur. The scale of the sets was a real challenge; to see details at the ground level as well as far away in the distance. I loved the different types of sets I got to work on, from dry and desolate areas to lush meadows. In addition to working with objects like trees, bushes, branches, plants, rocks and props, I also used a texture based system to paint down procedurally generated grasses, small weeds, debris and small rocks and dirt for a natural look.
